NBA 2k12 My Player Mode Tips

Having trouble winning games in my player mode? You aren't the only one. I spent my first season with the New York Knicks and struggled night in night out to win games. We ended up barely making the playoffs and getting swept by Boston.

In my second season with New York, I tried new tactics. My player won the MVP title, set the NBA single season record in 3 pointers made and steals, and won the NBA Championship.

Here is how you can share my success:

• Cherry pick! When you are guarding your man as the shot goes up, make a break for the opposite basket. You will find out that your forwards will often grab the rebounds and chuck it down court to your player where you can simply lay it up or throw it down. Either way, it is an easy two points for your team and sets up the second key to success.
• After your team scores, it is easy to steal the inbound pass. The key is timing the pass. Every pass will go towards the guard standing closest to the passer. Do NOT guard that man tight prior to the pass or the ball will go to the other guard. Play off of him just enough to make the passer think it is a safe pass. Next sprint and snag the pass, turn around and shoot. String a few of these plays together and you are running up the score on your opponents.
• Can't shoot well? Get to the free throw line! The easiest way to get to the free throw line is to pump fake your opponent into the air. Give a fake shot and once he leaves his feet you should shoot into him which will draw a foul nearly every time. After you knock down your easy shots from the line, you can go back to stealing the inbound pass.
• Cold night? Every player has them. You have to know not only when to pass the ball, but how to pass the ball. Every NBA team has a star besides your player. Find away to feed them the ball. For me with the New York Knicks, I had plenty of stars to feed the ball to. Which is good to show you how to feed each position. To a big man like Stoudemire, you have two options. First you can drive the lane hard to the lane toward Stoudemire's man. Once he tries to stop your drive you dish the ball to your open teammate and watch him hit the 15 foot jumper all day. The other option to free him up is the generic pick & roll. Only in this case it is the pick & watch. Give your teammate the ball and go set a pick for him. This allows him to drive to the lane and score or get fouled. Sometimes others will pick him up off the screen and he will pass it to another teammate. Regardless, a good shot will be taken. For a teammate who shoots lights out from deep like Carmelo or Baron can significantly boost your assist stats. All you have to do is dribble near their defender and bait him into double teamming you. (if your ball control is low, you may get your pocket picked in this situation.) Once the second defender comes just pass it to your guard and watch the threes drop. Then go steal the inbound pass!
